Buckwheat, Beckaroo, and the Beginning of an Addiction

Join us for our third episode of the "Rediscovering Debbie Campbell Podcast" as we uncover the extraordinary life and career of Debbie Campbell with stories from Becky Hobbs, Marc Durham and Debbie herself. In these three parts, we dive into her early years, her journey through various bands, and the darker side of her success, including the night she started her battle with alcoholism. 

 

Act 1: 

We journey through the incredible life and career of Becky Hobbs, an accomplished songwriter and country singer. We explore Becky's experiences seeing the Kandy Kanes, being inspired by Debbie Campbell as a singer and guitarist in the all-girl band, and how she transitioned from playing with an all-female rock band to becoming a renowned songwriter. 

 

Act 2: 

We take you on a journey through the life of the band Buckwheat through the eyes of bassist Marc Durham. Discover how the band evolved from its early days with Jim Edgar and the Roadrunners to its transformation into Buckwheat, and how it ultimately fell apart. 

 

You'll get a glimpse into their incredible journey, the challenges they faced, and the moments of success that defined their career, from their big break with London Records to the evolution of their music across their four album career. 

 

Act 3: 

In the final part of this episode, we delve deep into Debbie's story, which revolves around her first drink and her subsequent alcoholism. Her story highlights how alcohol can become a crutch, a way to mask pain, and a path to addiction. From the moment she took her first drink, Debbie's life changed forever and her journey is a powerful reminder of the devastating effects of addiction and the importance of seeking help and support to overcome it.
